Optical Imaging and Tracking of Single Molecules in Ultrahigh Vacuum

چکیده

Molecule-surface interaction is key to many physical and chemical processes at interfaces. Here, we show that the dynamics of single molecules on a surface under ultrahigh vacuum can be resolved using fluorescence imaging. By adapting oil-immersion microscopy thin window, measure adsorption, translational rotational diffusion perylene fused silica with high spatial temporal resolution. Time-dependent measurements signal allow us deduce two characteristic decay time scales, which explained through simplified model involving adsorption states five energy levels. The system presented in this work combines imaging essential ingredients for science promises platform probing molecule-surface interactions highly defined conditions.

investigation of single-user and multi-user detection methods in mc-cdma systems and comparison of their performances

Optical detection of single molecules.

Recent advances in ultrasensitive instrumentation have allowed for the detection, identification, and dynamic studies of single molecules in the condensed phase. This measurement capability provides a new set of tools for scientists to address important current problems and to explore new frontiers in many scientific disciplines, such as chemistry, molecular biology, molecular medicine, and nan...

Mechanics and imaging of single DNA molecules.

We review recent experiments that have revealed mechanical properties of single DNA molecules using advanced manipulation and force sensing techniques(scanning force microscopy (SFM), optical or magnetic tweezers, microneedles). From such measurements, intrinsic relevant parameters (persistence length, stretch modulus) as well as their dependence on external parameters (non-physiological condit...

Imaging of single organic molecules in motion.

High-resolution transmission electron microscopy revealed nearly atomically precise images of stepping conformational change and translational motion of single hydrocarbon molecules confined in carbon nanotubes. One or two C12 or C22 alkyl chains were tethered to a carborane end group and then embedded in the nanotubes. Images of the hydrocarbon chains interacting with each other and with a gra...

Developments in surface magneto-optical Kerr effect setup for ultrahigh vacuum analysis of magnetic ultrathin films

We describe a surface magneto-optical Kerr effect sSMOKEd setup designed to study the magnetic properties of ultrathin films in ultrahigh vacuum sUHVd. As in earlier systems, a crossed-poles electromagnet is used, which allows measurements in the longitudinal or polar configurations to be carried out without displacing the sample or changing the optical path. The poles are mounted in-vacuum, wh...
